DeepRoot To Showcase Silva Cell At Greenbuild International

DeepRoot offers tour of sustainable streetscape project to the public

San Francisco, Calif., Sept. 27, 2011 - DeepRoot, an urban landscape product manufacturer and services supplier, will exhibit during the Greenbuild International Conference and Expo in Toronto Canada from October 4 to 7, 2011.

DeepRoot is offering a free tour of the Queensway project on Thursday, October 6 from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm. The Queensway is a sustainable sidewalk pilot project using the Silva Cell (suspended pavement) system to integrate trees, soil and stormwater to support long-term tree growth while managing road and sidewalk stormwater runoff from the municipal catch basins.

This site was largely funded by the City of Toronto and includes a monitoring system operated by Ryerson University to measure the rate, quantity and quality of the stormwater moving through the system. In 10 to 20 years, the city fully expects to see the project continuing to nurture large, mature trees and support an effective stormwater system.

The tour will cover how the system was built, a demonstration of the stormwater monitoring equipment and how the results are being reported and published, a visit to the field station, and a discussion of the various applications of this technology. Representatives from Toronto Water, Ryerson University and DeepRoot will lead the tour and answer questions.

The DeepRoot team will also be in booth #2241N to showcase the Silva Cell product itself. They are available to answer questions about planning and implementing projects that promote long-term tree growth for the benefit of stormwater management and Urban Sustainability.

The public is invited to go on the tour, and anyone interested should register by contacting aileen (at) deeproot.com. A case study about the Queensway project is also available.

East River Commuter Ferry Service Could Be Halted, Again

4 Nov 2009 at 12:00am  For almost two years, city officials have extolled a proposal for a five-borough network of water taxis, an ambitious plan that the City Council speaker, Christine C. Quinn, said would make New York ''a shining example of urban sustainability for cities all over the world.'' The plan moved quickly. A ferry linking the Rockaways, in Queens, to...

28 May 2009 at 12:00am  THIS summer, the Bushwick neighborhood of Brooklyn is getting a surprising new public recreation venue -- a miniature golf course. Called the Putting Lot, the nine-hole course will be no run-of-the-mill putt-putt place. Besides offering amusement, it will encourage visitors to think about urban sustainability: artists and architects have designed...
