Appliance Recycling In Austin, Texas
Major appliances can really clutter up our landfills in a big way, but the good news is that tossing these appliances into the trash is not the only solution. Getting rid of your old appliances (and hopefully replacing them with newer, more energy efficient models) in the Austin, Texas area is easier and more affordable than you might think. In fact, you may even be able to EARN a little bit of cash when you recycle certain appliances.
There are several appliance collection services available in the Austin, Texas area that will pick up your old "junk" and dispose of it properly. Often these parts are taken apart and the parts are sold or used, or they appliance itself may be recycled. Appliance Collector is one such company that will pick up everything from refrigerators to TVs and washing machines, and they will even recycle your old furniture, too. Round Rock Appliance Recycling is another such company that operates in North Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, Pflugerville, and other sections in the northern area of the metropolitan area. This company will take almost any large and generally metallic item like washing machines, ovens, lawn mowers, and more.
Another option is to use the City of Austin's recycling program. They are currently picking up old but working refrigerators and freezers for free, and for some models they will pay you $35-50 for using the recycling program. This is a great way to get some extra cash to cover the cost of your new, energy efficient model without feeling bad about retiring a working fridge or freezer. There are eligibility requirements that you will have to meet, such as being a current Austin Energy customer and several other requirements. Contact the City of Austin for details.
Round Rock residents can haul their old appliances to the Round Rock Recycling Center. A pick-up option is available through the Round Rock Recycling Center, but there is an additional fee associated with this. Other local municipalities may offer Appliance Recycling as well.
Keep in mind that these recycling centers generally suggest that you donate any working appliances to local charities such as the ARC of Texas, the Habitat for Humanity Re-Store, and others. These are generally tax deductible donations, so be sure to get a receipt for your donation. Appliance Recycling should be considered generally for non-working appliances that are not able to be re-used by others.
