The Easiest Raised Garden Beds To Construct
A friend of mine mentioned that she wanted to build a raised garden bed for a small vegetable garden she was planting this spring. I began searching raised garden beds to learn how difficult this would be since I was sure she would enlist my aid in constructing this structure. I found many websites describing how to construct a raised garden bed and it did not seem too difficult. Simply put, you decide where to place the raised garden bed, remove all grass and other debris from the area, build a box around the garden and then fill it with soil. However, I was not impressed with how these do-it-yourself raised gardens looked from the pictures that accompanied the online how-to guides, so I did some more research on the subject of constructing raised garden beds.
A raised garden bed does provide many advantages over a full size vegetable garden. The raised gardens are good for smaller vegetable gardens that will only cover a few feet in area. Raised garden beds can provide healthy soil for vegetable gardens in areas where it would be too costly to repair soil that is not suitable for growing a vegetable garden. Weed growth is inhibited because the raised garden is sitting on a foundation of garden matting making the control of weeds much easier. In addition, raised garden beds make gardening much easier for individuals who may have difficulty bending, stooping and kneeling because raised garden beds provide easier access to the garden. Raised garden beds also inhibit encroachment into the garden by your lawn, protect the plants from damage from lawnmowers, and weed eaters.
One advantage to having a raised garden bed that is often overlooked is the beauty that it can add to your yard. Raised garden beds can be as detailed or as plain and simple as your mind can imagine. I found many great articles online about how to construct a raised garden bed as I said before but I also found something even more spectacular - - pre-made materials that you can purchase to construct a beautiful raised garden bed. For the average person like me, constructing a raised garden bed would require some effort but could be accomplished; however, it would be a very simple bed constructed of 2 x 4 wood boards and would not be very appealing as far as curb appeal is concerned. With a little help from your local retailers, everyone can construct a raised garden bed that is both functional and beautiful.
